Andy Payne Settles with Automobile Manufacture Relating to a Fuel-Fed Fire
Mr. Wood was rear-ended by a City bus on a highway near Fort Worth, Texas. Even though Mr. Wood was not significantly injured in the collision, his vehicle caught fire. The gas tank on his SUV was located in a dangerous position behind the rear axle. The gas tank was not properly shielded from puncture and its filler neck not properly designed. Because of these defects with the vehicle, it caught fire during this rear-end collision. The fire caused Mr. Wood’s fatal injuries. The manufacturer agreed to a substantial, confidential settlement prior to trial of this case.
